5 Places to Visit in Anglesey
With its amazing landscape and beautiful beaches, visiting the Isle of Angelsey is a huge must. It offers peace and tranquility and for a photographer, a dream.
Below are the 5 places to visit in Anglesey:-
The Menai Suspension Bridge
The Menai Suspension Bridge was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1826, it was supposedly the first modern suspension bridge in the World. Be sure to take pictures on either side of the bridge and take a walk around the coast, absolutely stunning.
2. Llanddwyn Island
Llanddwyn Island is the place to be if you fancy exploring with or without children, ideal for dogs too. This Island is located via Newborough Warren beach, a 30 minute walk, you will not be disappointed, p.s. do not forget to take a picnic.
Remember to check on the Llanddwyn Island tide times before visiting.
3. South Stack Lighthouse
Great for Sunset Photography, overlooking the Irish Sea, the historic Lighthouse a tiny islet off Anglesey (2-3 miles West of Holyhead) at the north west tip of Wales. Visitors can explore the island and tour the lighthouse, which can be reached via a descent of 400 steps down the steep mainland cliffs then at the bottom via a bridge.
When I visited I was lucky to capture an acrobat attempting to walk across a high wire as per the photograph below shows.
4. St. Cwyfan’s Church (Church in the sea)
From the road this is probably a 15 minute walk but worth it. When you approach the gated entrance from the road, you may be inclined to drive down the lane to the Church, warning, don’t (even if the gate is open). I did and found myself locked in, there is a clear sign saying do not drive and for some reason, I did not see this. I ended up asking the residents to unlock the gate, very embarrassing but luckily they did not mind.
This is probably the most recognizable church on Anglesey, and you can see why in my photographs, it is popularly known as the Church in the Sea. The church sits on Cribinau island and dates back to the 12th Century. Be sure to check the tide times.
5. Point Lynas Lighthouse
Amazing spot, I highly recommend capturing the sunrise. Point Lynas Lighthouse is also a Guest House, I did not enter as I was there around 5.30 am so cannot comment on whether it is good. I think the view in the below pictures speaks for itself.
Have a wonderful time in Anglesey and be Safe!!
